Handmade Chic by Laura Bennett

I am not a crafty person. At all. When I got the book Handmade Chic: Fashionable Projects That Look High-End, Not Homespun by Project Runway finalist Laura Bennett I suddenly wanted to go out and buy a sewing machine and get started. I even tweeted about it.  A lot.  I was really excited about making a quilted laptop case, sweet nightgown and my own Kindle cover in leather.  Amazing!

For someone who doesn’t know much about sewing this book was really easy to follow.  There are step-by-step drawings for each project and very simple strategies for creating 40 small luxury type items and high-fashion accessories.  There are leather goods, feathered bags, dazzling dresses and shoes galore!  It is fantastic and drool-worthy.  You can find projects for varying levels of expertise and some that don’t require any sewing at all.  It’s all about creating your own DIY signature piece!

This book is just like Laura.  There are bright colors, lots of suggestions (love the how-to on buying faux fur!) and where to purchase materials.  It’s fantastic!  I highly recommend ‘Handmade Chic’ by Laura Bennett no matter your sewing/crafting level.  It’s a wonderful how-to book that will offer you many projects in a variety of fashionable areas.
