JumpStart Review & Giveaway

It is fair and easy to say that my six year old loves playing on the computer.  She can navigate her gaming sites well and will comandeer your smart phone if you allow it.  My middle child, almost four, is now following suit.  Just last night we found her alone in the office trying to play her own computer game.  When JumpStart approached me about reviewing their own gaming website I knew the girls would love to test it out.

A bit of background on JumpStart.  Knowledge Adventure has set the standard in kids’ software for over 15 years.  They have created the outstanding educational products for in-home and classroom use.  Geared for kids ages 3-10 years old JumpStart has CD games and a browser-based virtual world for kids to create their own avatars, explore magical worlds and unlock exciting, educational games.  The games teach skills in math and reading that are hard to find in other online games for kids.  JumpsStart is almost always fresh with new games and features too.

AdventureLand, aimed at kids in kindergarten to second grade was our first stop. My oldest was immediately bright-eyed and excited to begin a new gaming journey. She enjoyed creating her avatar from skin color to hair, clothes and more. As she used her avatar, Emily FairyGem (they get to pick names too!) to swim, jump, run and earn points she had a lot of fun.  She loved all the activites and earning wings to fly.  She wanted to go back for more and her sister was eager to get started on her own game.  The games are easy to navigate but do offer challenges in using the mouse and controls.  Kids have to pay attention to continue in the games versus zoning out and mindlessly clicking over the spots on the screen.  I like how interactive the games are and that they have to keep searching, answering questions and applying themselves in order to continue the journey.  It is not a passive kids gaming site like some character or television-driven sites tend to be.

Games like Adventureland and Marineland are great for early elementary while Storyland is perfect for 3-5 year olds.  Beyond that age range and for kids in 3rd to 5th grad there is Uncle Milton’s Scienceland and FutureLand.  The Enchanged Sanctuary is fun too! Kids can hatch and raise their own mythical creature, which my girls adored.

We’ll continue to use JumpStart for all the edutainment it has to offer. It’s safe, fun and educational! Enter now and you could win a membership for your kid too!  To enter to win the JumpStart membership all you have to do is comment.  Additional entries can be gained by ‘Following’ MPR or Tweeting this post.  I will choose a winner at random on June 13, 2012.

MPR Rating: Four Stars.
