The Good Life for Less by Amy Allen Clark

Fun Find– I met Amy Allen Clark back in 2008 at the infamous Camp Baby.  I bent her ear and she told me that anytime I wanted to talk to her about blogging, spokesperson work, anything at all I could just give her a call.  I took her up on the offer a few months later and in the midst of a busy day with her kids, Amy gave me some great pieces of advice.   Her generosity and willingness to help a fellow blogger out has made me a true fan of her blog, MomAdvice.com and now her new book, ‘The Good Life for Less’.

Amy is smart about budgeting.  She knows how to make a little bit of money go a long way from personal experience.  Just before her first child was born her husband was laid off.  Unable to support her family on her just her salary she decided to learn to live small and spend carefully.   That is exactly what The Good Life for Less: Giving Your Family Great Meals, Good Times, and a Happy Home on a Budget is all about.  It teaches families to make the most with what they have while still creating free and meaningful family traditions.  It teaches you how to create a housework plan and how to make your own cleaning products (love it!) and how to find free financial programs to create a working family budget.   The book has recipes that efficiently use what is in your pantry right now as well as using your kitchen tools.   There are websites included that illustrate the best ways to find discounts, freebies and bonuses.

What I love about the book is that you can pick and choose how you read it based on what is important to you at that moment.  Right away I turned to ‘Five Easy Ways’ about how to teach my kids to be frugal.  Being 7 & 4 it is a good time to teach them some money and saving basics that go beyond their piggy banks.  I also learned valuable ways to save when it comes to special occasions and the holidays.  With upcoming birthday parties and a few special events in the next month I needed that chapter bad.  In the process I found loads of other advice on how to create special memories, eliminate the excess spending and things in our life and so much more.

The Good Life for Less by Amy Allen Clark ($15.00) is a real great and fun find.  You can learn more from Amy by following her on Twitter @momadvice.
