Sue Devitt Eye Intensifier Pencil

So many of us are looking for an easy way to create an intense and dramatic eye for night time.  Celebrity Makeup Artist (Celeb fans include Kiera Nightly, SJP and Cameron Diaz), Sue Devitt and her number one product the Eye Intensifier Pencil might be just the thing.

Water resistant, velvety in texture and coming in rich shades the Sue Devitt Eye Intensifier Pencil ($22) will glide onto your skin and allow for an almost fool-proof application. I tested the bronze shade, Tanzania. There are 13 shades to choose from with something for everyone’s eye color and style.  I found that the Tanzania was not a good color for me as it brought out the red in my already allergy prone inflamed eyes but it did go on very smooth and easy.  I had no trouble swiping a thick swash of it across my lash line and then blending it out. The blending nub at the bottom is soft and works perfectly for this task.  The eye color works nicely and comes off easy at the end of the day.  The color swatches online are pretty accurate to the color in the actual pencil too. I love that the pencil is somewhat chubby which makes it ideal for creating a dramatic, smokey or bold eye easily.

Sue Devitt’s Eye Intensifier Pencil is available online, at Birchbox and at QVC.com

Renaissance Hotel- Times Square, New York

Last month H and I had the chance to head up to NYC and take in a show and be on one.  Having never been to New York City proper H wanted to stay right smack in the middle of Times Square.  We booked a night at the Renaissance Times Square (a Marriott property) and here is the rundown.

A small, dark wood-paneled lobby awaits you.  The staff is immediately attentive and very helpful everywhere you turn. There are two sets of elevators which might get a bit crowded during peak hours of check-in and check-out times.

What I Loved:  Our room had a king-sized bed and was more than ample in size.  It was quite big for city standards and contained a good-size closet, flat screen television, desk and divan with a small table that could be placed over the divan.  Great for snacks or working on the couch.  The desk also had many outlets and charging areas.  The bathroom had ample counter space, speakers so you could hear the television while in there and a beautiful mosaic tiled shower with a bench.  When you turned off the main bathroom lights and left the shower light on the tiles glowed and shimmered in a really beautiful way that made you just want to hang out in the stall and relax.  The bed, the linens and the pillows were adequate and very comfortable.

What I Missed:  While the room was nicely decorated and the staff attentive while we stayed at the hotel we did find that for such a nice place the room lacked bathrobes.  Robes would be a very welcome addition to the room.  When room service arrived in the morning they forgot our drinks but returned quickly.  Again, a bathrobe as would have been good as I just showered and not dressed yet.

We enjoyed our stay at the Time Square Renaissance hotel.  I would recommend it to anyone that wants to stay in the heart of Time Square.  The hotel bar is all glass and very warm and inviting.  It has a tasty array of snacks and drinks that will tide you over until a post-show meal and is a perfect vantage point for looking out over the square and all that is happening in it.

Low Maintenance Looks

As a very busy mother of three kids under the age of five I am always looking for ways AND products that help me streamline my morning routine.  The Mummy Chronicles has a great post this week about how to Look Awake! and a list of products that assist in this sometimes difficult task.

I need to take my own advice this week. Cold temps, winds and a lack of sleep and exercise have me looking like an old dishrag.

Uncle Funky’s Daughter

Fun Find- Free of parabens, mineral oils, synthetic ingredients and dyes and super moisturizing Uncle Funky’s Daughter is the answer for curly hair.  The website offers a very comprehensive way to figure out what type of curly hair you have and the products that will work best for you. In addition you can purchase the products on the website.  The DeFunk Spray ($11) is great for taking out grease, oils and odors on  hair while stimulating your curls.  It works well on all curly hair types. My girl with her Frizzy Gillespie type curls uses this every few days to keep her curls looking fresh.

My Name Is Not Isabella Book Review

My Name is Not Isabella ($16.99) by Jennifer Fosberry is a wonderful read.  I was so pleased to be asked to review this book and it did not let me or my two daughters down.  Throughout the book the little girl, Isabella does what all small children do, she changes her mind about who she is and continues her game of make believe throughout the entire book.  She is not just Isabella but Marie! The famous scientist! Or Rosa, the most amazing activist!

On and on the book continues to illustrate to girls that games and pretend play can go beyond princesses and fairies.  No offense to those books but they are a dime a dozen and a book like, My Name is Not Isabella is quite a find. It is a fun read for both me and my kids.  My husband likes reading to it to them as well as it goes beyond the pink, cute character books the girls so often want to pick for story time.  I also loved how at the end of the book each character depicted has a biography of the real astronaut, doctor, activist and more.  A sense of history, originality and fun run through the whole book making it a real enjoyable read.

Happy New Year!

It’s a new year and I’ve decided that there will be some new additions to Mummy’s Product Reviews this year. In addition to the regularly featured PBN reviews, Friday Fun Finds and the weekly product reviews, I’ll be conducting compare and contrasts of products. Mummy will debunk myths regarding even more products, hopefully incorporate an abundance of giveaways (ahem! companies! Readers like free stuff!!) into the reviews and add more coupons.

I’ll even post about books, movies, and current trends (watermelon!) throughout the year so check back often for exciting new ideas and more!

If you have questions regarding certain products or how I conduct reviews please feel free to contact me and I will see what I can do. I’m here to help you find the very best of what is new, fresh, hot and well… what works and won’t waste your money.

If you are a company that would like your product reviewed keep in mind that I veer towards green items, women and children’s accessories, gift ideas, housewares and decor. I am open-minded but I like to actually review the product and not just post about it sight unseen. Giveaways to the readers work wonders on me as do posting ads on this site. So give me a call, email, or write!

It’s a brand new year and there are loads of great products to be reviewed! I look forward to working with you, hearing from you and learning with you!

Happy 2008!
